Scone New Church Family History

1624

Scone Parish Church erected on Moothill, Scone Palace. Only an aisle remains.

1748

Formation of Burgher Church of original Secession Movement of 1733. Congregation built own church.

1784

Church rebuilt on another site in the grounds of Scone Palace.

1804-1805

Parish Church moved to New Scone stone by stone and rebuilt exactly as it had stood before.

1834

Population of New Scone increasing and another aisle added to the church.

1789

Church superseded by another building.

1810

Church taken down and re-erected in New Scone.

1820

Became known as the United Secession Church following the union of Burgher and Anti-Burgher Churches. Manse built in Union Road.

1897

St David's, Stormontfield erected as an auxiliary church of the parish.

1843

Formation of Free Church of Scotland following the disruption.

1844

First church erected on the site of the present Scone New Church.

1845

Free Church School built by the congregation.

1848

Manse built at Murrayshall Road.

1876

School transferred to the new public school in the Robert Douglas Memorial Institute.

1886

First church building demolished.

1887

New church erected and gifted to The Free Church of Scotland by Miss G. Moodsman, Balformo - our present church.

1900

Union with United Presbyterian Church to form the United Free Church - to be know as the Abbey Church.

1847

Became known as United Presbyterian Church following union of United Secession and Relief Churches.

1885

Church rebuilt on present site - now private flats.

1900

Union with Free Church of Scotland to form the United Free Church - to be known as the West Church.

1929

Union of The Church of Scotland and The United Free Church - now known as the Old Parish Church.

1929

Scone Old Parish Church.

Union of The United Free Church with the Church of Scotland - retains the name Abbey Church.

1929

Union of United Free Church with Church of Scotland - retains the name West Church.

Union with West Church.
