Gilbert & Sullivan Concert
The concert given by The Edinburgh Gilbert & Sullivan Singers on Friday 9th September was voted an outstanding success by an appreciative audience of approximately two hundred and seventy who by their response to the professionalism of the group indicated their enjoyment.
There was a very happy atmosphere engendered by the performers which made the evening a social event as much as a fundraiser for the church. A net total of £1822 was raised.
After the concert most of the audience gathered in the church hall to enjoy a wonderful supper with a glass of wine or soft drinks.
Behind the scenes, of course, the concert didn't happen without organisation, and thanks are due to all involved in setting up the church, halls and the many other tasks which were necessary. Also, thanks must be given to the ladies who, through their skills and hard work, provided such a wonderful and attractive supper and to all who contributed in any way towards the success fo theevening.
The group of singers always enjoy coming to perform in Scone New because of the excellent reception and response they receive, and the wonderful acoustics in the church.
Lilian Murchison
Although we had at one time feared that
the holiday club might not take place this year, it was made possible by the
fact that Anne Gunn, a Youth Pastor from
Forty-two primary school children attended
the club and this year’s theme was “Showstoppers”, affording plenty of scope
for children to display their dramatic, musical and artistic talents. The first
session each day was spent planning and producing a stage set design. This was
followed by an aerobics session, singing, and games and crafts, the very
popular racing car quiz, and fan mail. This year an Oscar was awarded daily to
the team which managed to win a variety of Oscar challenges.
The Bible focus this year was on themes
which had been selected in a national poll as the ones it was most important to
pass on to the next generation – the account of Creation, David and Goliath,
Daniel and the lion’s den, the birth of Jesus, and his life, death and
resurrection.
The Thursday evening session for families
and friends was well-attended. New this year for teenage helpers and their
friends were afternoon programmes which included ice-breaker games,
talks/discussions and messy games.
Thanks are due to the team who provided
midmorning refreshments and to the door security team. We would also like to
acknowledge our enormous debt to Andy
Tomison who has led the Holiday Club team for the past seventeen years, but was
unable to do so this year.
Sponsored Walk
The sponsor walk of the Coronation
Walk on 6 August raised over £1500 in aid of church funds. A big thank you is due to all who participated
and contributed along with the indomitable team of organisers.
